This is fitting manual for rear mud guards dedicated for Pole Voima & Vikkelä bikes. It covers all versions of fenders currently available, including racing and long fenders. It also explains nuances about compatibility with V1 and new Voima.
Versions and compatibility
The fender is compatible with Pole Voima and Vikkela bikes. Since Pole made some modifications of the swing arm design in mid 2022/2023, it’s important to choose right version of the fender.
Among exchangeable brake mount and other improvements, the redesigned version has shifted cable slot (4mm towards wheel axle), so if you choose wrong fender version, you may experience clearance issues or fender touching seat tube during full compression of the suspension.
The unambiguous method for identifying the swingarm is checking brake mount, for original design it’s integrated since for new one exchangeable.
Original design occurs in:
- All Voima bikes from 2022
- Early 2023 Voima V1 bikes
New design occurs in:
- Voima ID
- Late Q1 2023 Voima V1 bikes
- All Vikkela bikes
Cable setups
Since V1 of my fenders from 2022 has dedicated versions for different cable setups, all fenders from 2023 collection are universal and support:
- Cable and wireless derailleur
- 5-6 mm thick brake hose
- External speed sensor cable
By default, tunnels for sensor and derailleur are ended with thin walls, so initial setup is wireless. You can remove the walls with sharp knife if needed.
Tools needed
For installation you will need:
- 2.5mm hex screwdriver
- Sharp knife
- Flat screwdriver
Before installation
Before you install the mud fender, you need to remove original rubber grommets installed in cable slots. You can do that with flat screwdriver. If you have cables installed already, you will need to cut the grommets with sharp knife to po put them off. I recommend to that in one of the corners, to you still will be able to use them in the future.
The fenders can be installed with rear wheel on the bike (even on the trail), but when you do that for the first time you can remove the wheel to make the process easier.
Installation of the racing fender
Start the installation with the front lower part of the fender. Put it below the swing arm.
Starting from right side, try to “slide” the mount into cable slot. If you have derailleur cable, place it inside tunnel and use as a “rail”. Please notice that lower part of the mount has the tab hooking the wall of the swing arm.
When you slide mount completely, push the upper part into the slot.
Repeat the operation with left mount.
To help mounts to “click” firmly into the slots, you can pull center part of the fender towards the frame.
Repeat the operation with rear upper part of the fender. Be sure that cables are in their tunnels before you start sliding the mounts to the cable slots.
After installation of rear part, screw the two parts together with bolts provided with the fender and 2.5mm hex screwdriver.
Properly installed fender should not touch any part of suspension besides the mounts in cable slots.
Installation of the long fender
First stage of installation is identical as for racing fender. Since rear part of the fender has longer sides, you can pull them to make sliding of the mount easier.
To finish the installation, press the stabilizers into bearing slots.
That’s it! Now you can have your favourite beer 🙂 Check also my video about installation:
