This is fitting manual for rear mudguard dedicated for NICOLAI bikes.
Versions and compatibility
The mudguard is available in four size versions for the following bike models:
S16 MGU – mini, racing, universal, long
The mudguard is compatible with standard mutators only. If you have mutators for explorer kit (integrated brackets) you will need to source standard ones at NICOLAI web-shop.
Tools needed
For installation you will need:
- 3 mm allen key
- 2.5 mm allen key (to assembly of long mudguard only)
Assembly
If you ordered long mudguard, it requires assembly before installation. You need to bolt two elements of rear part with included M3x10 bolts.
Tighten the bolts to make sure the parts are firmly connected.
Before installation
Remove the rear wheel before mudguard installation. It is necessary to fit the lower part of the fender.
Installation
Fit the lower part of the mudguard. You can bend it if needed to locate between seat stay and chain stay.
Locale upper/rear part of the mudguard on the seat stay.
Screw in the four M4 bolts to attach both parts of mudguard to each other. Don’t tighten the bolts at this stage to make sure that you can slightly move mudguard along seat stay.
Make sure that the front mudguard bracket fits the mutator. If you have 6.5 mm mutator for 29er, the protruding part of the bracket should align with the mutator. If you have longer mutator dedicated for mullet, the bracket should align to joint area between the mutator and rear part of the seat stay.
Now you can tighten the bolts. Make sure that the mudguard is fixed firmly. Loosen mudguard can move during ride and be cause for rattling and scratches on surface of seat stay.
Swapping sizes
If you bought combo version (long and racing mudguard in one), you can easily swap rear parts without removing the wheel. Just unscrew the bolts and install another rear part. Remember to locate the front bracket align with the mutator.
