We’ve always believed in total transparency, so we want to share the details of our development process. Not long ago, we sent out the first beta-test batch of our wheel-mounted Racing fender for the Fox Podium fork. The feedback was very positive – most testers were really happy and said the fender met all their expectations. However, during more intense and aggressive testing on the trails, we discovered some issues.

While the fender performed perfectly during less aggressive riding, pushing it to the limit on high-speed, rough trails caused visible vibrations and shaking. But the biggest problems came from two specific situations. First, one of our Polish testers broke the fender on his very first downhill run. During an aggressive turn, the tire caught the mudguard and there was nothing left to save. Second, and more dangerous: another rider had a rock get stuck between the tire and the fender. Because our prototype was designed to be very stiff, the fender didn’t break – instead, it bent with enough force to destroy the expensive carbon lower fork guards. Carbon fiber guards are not cheap, and the last thing we want is our product causing damage to your suspension.

What’s Next for the Racing Version?
We are now redesigning the Racing version. We need to find a solution to maximize clearance while making it impossible to break the fender during a full bottom-out . Since many of you are already asking about the next steps: once we fix these issues, there will definitely be another round of beta testing. However, we cannot say exactly when this will happen yet. Finding the perfect balance between strength and safety will take time, and we will not release an unfinished product.
The Fox Podium CM Fender Is Here
To make sure you have protection while we work on the Racing version, we have officially released the Fox Podium CM (Crown Mounted) fender.

Let’s be completely clear: this is not a temporary or cheap solution. We planned to release this model anyway, and based on our experience, it is simply a better solution overall, besides the look.
The crown-mounted design offers massive tire clearance, making it impossible for mud, rocks, or dirt to get stuck or jam the wheel. It delivers excellent protection against mud and dust, and because it sits high up under the fork crown, it is much safer. During normal riding without crashes, the risk of damage is practically zero.
The Tech: Our Latest Mounting Innovation
The Fox Podium CM fender features our newest, updated mounting system designed for heavy enduro and downhill riding. Based on our experience with the EXT VAIA fork, we knew how this fender should be mounted, but this time we needed to push the design even further. Our side clamps connect the mudguard directly to the fork legs right under the crown. This solution is thin, but thanks to that, breaking it is highly challenging. Another thing that ensures a stable fit is the steerer tube insert. It’s a part of the fender that goes into the steerer tube to prevent any movement.

The Fox Podium CM fender is now officially available in our store in all four standard sizes. If you want reliable, worry-free protection on the trails, check the link below!
